On my last website, my “about me” was written beautifully, concisely, and very professionally. I’ve decided to toss that out the window, and just share with you from my heart (So you be gentle, and I’ll keep it as brief as I can)!
The story started with me having some issues at home, and, at 16, deciding that I was better off moving out, than I was staying, and suffering. (In retrospect communicating what was going on clearly, and openly to a trusted adult may have been a better solution, but you know how you are at 16, you think you know everything)!
As soon as I moved out, things started slipping for me. I was trying to go to high school, I started working part time to pay the bills in the youth support home I lived in, and I was feeling overwhelmed. After a few months I couldn’t stop crying all the time, I couldn’t think straight, and I was, in short, a mess. This wasn’t what I’d imagined for my new adult life.
So, I did what most people do when they’re not feeling well, I went to my local Dr. He did some tests and had me see a specialist, and they came back to me with a diagnosis;
You have bipolar disorder
I didn’t even know what that meant, except that it didn’t sound good, so I filled my script of antidepressants and went home. Things didn’t improve so when I went back, I got a few more scripts, and soon I was taking antidepressants, mood stabilisers, and antipsychotics. The more I took, the more it seemed I needed to balance myself out.
I still wasn’t happy, I still couldn’t cope, and by the time I was 17 I was on a disability support pension, and told to go home and rest, any work at all would overwhelm me, and I may be hospitalised. I still remember to this day, the Dr that told me thats face, and how I felt the dreams of my future crumble around me – I cried all the way home.
I won’t go into too much details of the next ten years, except to say that I wasn’t healthy, I wasn’t well and I was on and off medication, but not getting any better.
By the time I was 26, I was (and I will use this bit from my professional bio for you) fat, frustrated and flabby with no goals for my future. (yup, you read that right – I said FAT, I was just under 100kg and for my height, thats considered morbidly obese). 😥
I had to make a choice, and I was finally READY! I started to ask around for solutions, surely there was another way, I couldn’t sit on my couch getting bigger, and sadder every year!
A journey of a thousand miles, begins with a single step. ~ Lao-tzu
Are YOU ready to make a change?
This is where my story changes, and this is why we have created this site, and do what we do – so you can learn what it takes to turn your life around and be your BEST self.
I met a beautiful woman, whose heart was made of gold, and she taught me about food for mood, exercise for endorphins, and cognitive therapy. This information (that we now keep under the umbrella of holistic health), LITERALLY gave me my life back
I did something, that is not usually recommended, (and I encourage you that if you are on medication that you seek the support of a holistic health care professional to do this), I took myself off my medication and set myself a goal to try for 12 months to do what I had learned. I figured what do I have to lose?
I started cleaning up my food habits, eventually learning that food that looks like what it was when it was grown is the best kind, (or at the very least, if it came in a packet I had to be able to recognise all the ingredients – seriously how many times have you looked at the back of the packet only to see a whole bunch of numbers that you really have no idea about)?
I learned to make yummy recipes using plant based foods, and eventually I cut out all meat, fish, chicken. More recently still I let go of eggs, gluten & dairy too. (Yes, I know, I know – you couldnt possibly give up cheese! BUT, I have GOOD news, there are alternatives, and you CAN do ANYTHING if you really want to)!
I started walking around the block (actually if I am honest, a few times I walked to the bus stop up the street, and sat there a while then came back as said I went for a walk), but it was something, and as it got easier I did more. Actually, I started to like it
I did a LOT of yoga because it wasn’t as hard or as scary as the thought of the gym, and I learned that breathing REALLY makes a difference to how we feel…
Who would have thought, something that we do each day without thought, if brought into our awareness can change the way we feel, react and respond. NEWS FLASH – it really can!
I got help from a holistic healthcare practitioner who taught me how to manage my mood, but using my thoughts and associated patterns. It was LIFE CHANGING…
Simple, natural changes, that I could learn in small increments, and here I was FEELING BETTER, and I don’t mean a little bit better, I mean, feeling AMAZING! Feeling alive, feeling brand new again!
In 53 weeks, I was fit, flexible and fun! I was on no medication, I went from 96.6kg to 58.6kg, losing a total of 38 kilograms, (thats around 84lb for you yanks out there), I loved my life, I was studying, I ate well, and enjoyed every bite, I had GOALS for my future! Exciting yes?
Since that point, I have not stopped, (and never will), learning about WELLNESS I have a tonne of pieces of paper that say I am a habitual student, and I know A LOT about what you can do to support your body’s processes naturally, so you can be happier, healthier, and more energetic every single day! If you really want to know what I’ve studied I’ll add a PS. down the bottom for you.
Who am I now? Im an energetic, upbeat, outgoing, lover of life! I enjoy travelling, (like a LOT), going to the beach, reading, playing outside with friends, camping, climbing, and living life to the fullest I look younger now than I did 13 years ago! I eat a high raw plant based diet, adore doing yoga, and even after all this time I still struggle to meditate…
I am NOT perfect, I do slip up, I am REAL and RAW, and it is my purpose in life to help people like YOU, reach your goals and dreams!
In short, when I wasn’t well, I found my answers in whole, plant based, and raw foods, movement, changing my thinking, and plugging into other natural solutions & holistic health practices I am now blessed with a life where I get to teach people each, and every day, about different things that make us ALIVE, EMPOWERED and WELL.
Heres what I like to cover:
- Eating Right
- Moving More
- Resting & Managing Your Stress Levels
- Reducing Your Toxic Load
- Informed & Natural Health/Self Care
- Personal & Spiritual Development
I have taught internationally on all of these subjects, and more, including (in no particular order); yoga, pilates, tai chi, personal training, raw food, plant based food, nutrition, spin, aqua aerobics, goal setting, vision boards, boot camp, meditation, detoxification, toxins, personal development, creativity & even chocolate, (cos a girl needs a bit of chocolate right)?
Its easier than you think to IMPROVE YOUR LIFE, it comes down to this:
It’s how you move, how you think, what you eat, and what you drink, that make the biggest impact…
This website is our new approach! There are too many holistic health speakers, and teachers, that portray the perfect life, with no hiccups, and set the special women, who are searching for answers, up for failure There are bumps in life, thats part of the joy of the journey We just need to learn how to get up, brush ourselves off, and keep on going!
Without the rain, how can you appreciate the sunshine?
That said, I want to help YOU find the solutions, that YOU can work with, and fit to YOUR situation, that take YOUR life to the next level, so check out the rest of this site, then reach out and contact me if you want to know more – we are here to help!
Love Zane xx
